SETTING UP: FULL VERSION
- Unzip the downloaded zip file SoundshaperFULL.zip into any folder, e.g. \Downloads
- Double-click the self-extracting installer InstallSoundshaper6.exe.
At the prompt, choose a base CDP folder within which to extract Soundshaper and CDP software.
The recommended default name is C:\CDPR8. You can choose another drive or another folder name, but do not have any spaces in the path.
Please also note the convention about folder-names see below.
- The installation will extract files to these sub-folders:
\_cdp (containing \_cdprogs for the CDP software)
\Soundshaper6
\TXT for supplied datafiles- To configure Soundshaper for first use, please read the instructions on the SUPPORT PAGE.
When you first start the program, you will be asked to select (or create) some essential folders.
The most important of these is the one in which you have installed CDP software (e.g. C:\CDPR8).- Also visit OPTIONS | SETTINGS to complete your settings for the program.
UPDATES and UPGRADES
UPDATE FOR CDP TEXTURE PROGRAM
The currently supplied version of Texture is a pre-Release 8 version, which is unfortunately not compatible with Soundshaper 6.0/6.1.
You need the CDP Release 7.1 version, which you can download above or here.
Unzip, then copy texture.exe into your CDP programs folder (..._cdp\_cdprogs).UPDATE FROM VERSIONS 6.0-6.1:
- Download the Soundshaper 6.1 Update (SoundshaperUD.zip) and unzip this into any folder, e.g. \Downloads.
- Optionally make a copy of your existing CDP folder (e.g. C:\CDPR7) before updating.
- Double-click the self-extracting installer Soundshaper61UD.exe.
- At the prompt, choose your existing base CDP folder (e.g. C:\CDPR7) to extract Soundshaper and CDP software.
Soundshaper.exe and other files will be updated to version 6.1.
The latest CDP software revisions will also be installed within \_cdp\_cdprogs, replacing older versions.
The set includes pre-release versions of CDP8 programs for Beta-testing (see NEWS page).
Other existing files will not be erased.- Optionally rename your base folder to C:\CDPR8 (or equivalent).
- DATAFILES:The update excludes most of the \TXT sub-folder, which you are assumed to have already.
The update includes new datafiles for CDP8, which will be placed in <CDP-folder>\TXT.
If this is where you keep your default datafiles, the extra subfolders will be added to your collection. If not, you will have to copy the new subfolders to your datafiles folder manually.
A special subfolder called R7_UPDATES is also included. You should copy content from there to any existing subfolders within your datafiles folder (e.g. \TXT).UPGRADE FROM VERSION 5 to 6.1:
- Download the Soundshaper 6 Upgrade (SoundshaperUG.zip) and unzip this into any folder, e.g. \Downloads.
- Rename or copy your existing folder to Soundshaper6.
- If you wish to preserve your previous version of Soundshaper within the Soundshaper6 folder, rename Soundshaper.exe first before unzipping to Soundshaper5.exe.
- Double-click the self-extracting installer Soundshaper6UG.exe.
At the prompt, choose your existing base CDP folder (e.g. C:\CDPR7) to extract Soundshaper and CDP software.
Soundshaper.exe will be upgraded to 6.1 and other files that are to be upgraded will be over-written.
The latest CDP software revisions will also be installed within \_cdp\_cdprogs, replacing older versions.
The set includes pre-release versions of CDP8 programs for Beta-testing (see NEWS page).
Other existing files will not be erased.- DATAFILES: The upgrade is the same as the full version, but excludes most of the \TXT sub-folder, which you are assumed to have already.
The upgrade includes datafiles for CDP8, which will be placed in <CDP-folder>\TXT.
\TXT).- As necessary, visit the Settings page and re-save your Options, some of which may have changed.
UPGRADING FROM EARLIER VERSIONS (Soundshaper 4.x)
- Please download and install the full version (6.1), as described above.
- If you already have datafiles you need to keep, rename your current User folder first, especialy if it's called <CDP-base-folder>\TXT (e.g. C:\CDPR7\TXT), as the new installation will overwrite files in this folder.
- Also rename your current configuration file (Soundshaper.evt) to Soundshaper.cfg, if your Settings will be the same or similar.
Put Soundshaper.cfg into your new Soundshaper folder after downloading Soundshaper 6, but before starting the program.- Some options and other Settings will be different: visit OPTIONS | SETTINGS and re-save the file.
Configuration File Update:
Please note that Soundshaper's Settings are now stored in a configuration file called Soundshaper.cfg, instead of the previous Soundshaper.evt. Soundshaper will still accept an .evt suffix, but will rename the file with a .cfg extension. You can easily do this yourself, of course, within Windows File Explorer.
FOLDER NAMES IN SOUNDSHAPER
- Please use ASCII (Roman-alphabet) characters as used in English when naming folders and also text datafiles, namely: a-z (lower or upper case) and numbers 0-9.
- Do not use folder paths with spaces. This is because CDP programs run in a command-line environment, where such spaces may produce errors.
This applies to Soundshaper folders set on the OPTIONS | SETTINGS page. Soundfiles that you load or save can, however, have spaces in the name.INSTALLING SOUNDSHAPER and SOUNDLOOM IN THE SAME CDP FOLDER
The installers for Soundshaper share the same CDP program files as the SoundLoom GUI, but do not include the special sub-folders required for SoundLoom.
These will be added to your installation if/when you install SoundLoom to the same base CDP folder (e.g. \CDPR7).If you already have SoundLoom installed, installating Soundshaper should not affect it in any way. However, to upgrade to the latest full set of CDP exes for both Soundshaper and SoundLoom, download the CDP_Upgrade_PC.zip. This should be installed to your existing base CDP folder (e.g. C:\CDPR7).
The above does not apply if you install Soundshaper and SoundLoom to entirely different locations you will simply have two sets of CDP software on your system.
SOUNDSHAPER MANUAL
The Soundshaper Help manual has been updated for Soundshaper 6.0.
Unzip the file to the CDP Docs folder (e.g. C:\CDPR7\DOCS\).
For new features in Soundshaper 6 and recent versions, see the NEWS page. For Soundshaper 6, please refer to the files "Soundshaper6 What's New.pdf" and "NEW_6.1.txt" supplied with the program. Two extracts from the Manusl (About Soundshaper.pdf and Basic Operation.pdf) are also supplied, in the \DOCS folder.
